Solar Design Engineer will be required to conduct site surveys and create technical designs of photovoltaic solar installations. Design Engineer will also need to produce and analyze production models, including site measurements or factors such as shading. Candidate will be capable of providing accurate CAD drawings/specification for commercial and multi-family residential sites and ideally 3 years of applicable experience performing technical work related to renewable energy and/or energy efficiency. Excellent quantitative and organizational skills and a background in engineering, physical science, or equivalent technical expertise is preferred. The ability to work both hands-on and analytically as well as the ability to successfully manage projects and complete projects on budget and on time. An ideal candidate will have the following: knowledge of computer based drafting software, surveying techniques, permitting, and/or construction management related to renewable energy projects.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Preparation of commercial plan sets for photovoltaic system installation utilizing AutoCAD. Plansets may include electrical schematics, structural details, geotechnical/civil drawings, specifications, and design information for rooftop, carports, and ground mounts
• Work with building departments for permitting, utilities for interconnection applications, and AHJs to insure compliance with local and national codes
• Provide site surveys of roofs or parking lots in order to facilitate accurate designs
• Work with and provide technical assistance to estimators, customers, and other divisions to acquire accurate information efficiently
• Maintain current knowledge of the NEC and all building codes applicable for proper solar system design
• Meet production schedules for submittals and proposals
• Work with operations to schedule construction, handover building permits, provide construction support and QA/QC audits post commissioning
• Work related travel up to 30%

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be self-driven, highly motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
• Strong verbal / written communication skills
• Ability to multi-task and manage numerous projects simultaneously
• At least 3 years of applicable experience performing technical work related to renewable energy and/or energy efficiency is preferable
• Any additional experience with surveying or electrical systems is preferred
• Secondary courses in photovoltaic systems, or renewable resource applications is preferred
• Competence in AutoCAD is mandatory
• Well versed in Microsoft Office
• BS degree in ME or EE or related discipline preferred
• Knowledge of photovoltaic systems, NEC/CSA requirements, construction practices
• Knowledge of National Electric Code, California Building Code, California Electric Code, etc.
• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial
• Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies
